22/11/19- People of Blisworth:- If you know anyone with some suitable local land where we could run the Wild & Woolly in future, please get in contact- email fraser@idology.co.uk

20/11/19

It is with regret that I have to relay bad news on this year’s Wild & Woolly. Recently we were informed by the landowner that we could not use the normal venue at Arm Farm. This is due to a combination of the continuing wet weather, some unforeseen environmental issues and the effects of the ever encroaching rail freight terminal.

Despite weeks of negotiations which looked promising at times, we’ve been unable to change this decision. With no other local venue available to us, the club has made the difficult decision of having to cancel this year’s event. The committee are extremely conscious of the long heritage of this race, and as a result the decision was made with a heavy heart.

The 94th Wild & Woolly will have to wait until 2020, when we’ll back to carry on the legacy.

Anyone who’s recently applied to join the club for this event will of course be refunded, or carried over to 2020 if preferred.

Thank you.

20/11/19- Our 2020 fixture dates are now on the site here.

28/10/19- The 2019 Club MX Championships are here. Only 3 rounds because of this year's rubbish weather. Lets hope 2020 is way better.

27/9/19- Entries are open for our season finale at Long Buckby on October 13th. Don't miss out, get entered via the ACU website asap.

27/09/19- The results from Long Buckby 1/9/19 are here, photos here.

15/05/19- The full report and photos from the Bob Collier Trophy meeting courtesy of our new reporter Andy Sturt are here. Photos here.

14/05/19- Unfortunately I've had some sad news. Last Tuesday we lost a long term club member and supporter, Barry Frankland. Younger riders will know him as father of Expert rider David Frankland. For those wishing to pay their respects the funeral will take place on Friday May 24th at Great Glen Crematorium at 12:30pm. 9 London Road, Great Glen LE8 9DJ

29/4/19- Entries are now open for our next meeting, the Bob Collier Trophy meeting at Long Buckby on May 12th. Enter as usual via the ACU website.

29/4/19- Here's the full report and photos from Round 1 at Badby. Report here, photos here.

15/03/19- SMC Round 1 17/3/19 Long Bckby cancelled.

NMCC have explored every option in trying to run this meeting as the club really wanted it to go ahead. We prepped the track for a wet weather event, and its actually not too bad at the present moment in time. I've been over this morning and with a bit of modification we could run if there was no more rain.

BUT all the latest forecasts show rain for most of Saturday day and night however. The BBC are showing rain for a full 24 hrs starting 01.00am tomorrow. If we wait until tomorrow to decide and the rain comes, then we'll have to call it off anyway. At that point the club would suffer a big financial loss so its better to make the decision today. All entries will be fully refunded. We'll look at the calendar and see if we can reschedule.

04/01/19- Happy New Year everyone, the 2019 SMC Registration form is now out to secure your race number. Download it here.

28/12/18-

28/11/18- 93rd Wild & Woolly preview

The world’s oldest off-road motorcycle race returns once again for the 93rd time on Boxing Day. I could tell you how practice starts at 10am, the race begins with a dead-engine start at 11am. How the race takes place once again in its spiritual home of Blisworth, Northants. How the brave riders will endure an hour of freezing water crossings, mud and mayhem. I could tell you how many riders now favour older two-stoke machines and try all manner of custom waterproofing techniques to reach the finish. I could, but unless you missed the previous 92 Wild & Woollies you’ll already know this.

With the tricky conditions this race is anything but predictable, however there are three main favourites within the now full entry list. Local Hero Neville Bradshaw is undefeated at this event, with wins at both his previous two attempts in 2015 & 2016. Last year’s winner Jack Lee has run up a total of five previous wins since 2010. Ryan Griffiths has an incredible ten wins to his name, though he’s not taken home the trophy since 2011. These three riders have an amazing seventeen wins between them. Other Expert entries worth a mention are Lewis Huckerby and Laurence Wiltshire, both more than capable of causing an upset and taking the win.

So the winner is hard to predict. What you can say for sure though is that whoever takes the chequered flag after a gruelling hour of racing in the hardest conditions will most definitely deserve the accolade. Getting your name on the historic Ladies Cup is a feat that many have tried, only a select few have ever accomplished.

Entry for spectators is free, but as this is a charity event we encourage donations at our collection points. All proceeds are given to selected local charities.  Postcode for the spectator carpark is NN7 3DW.

Also please not some kind of body armour with chest and back protection must be worn from now on. From the ACU-

"As riders prepare for the 2018 season the ACU Motocross Committee would like to make all riders aware of a change to the Motocross Standing Regulations regarding Body Protection for the 2018 season and beyond.Following a recent change in the FIM and FIME rules making it compulsory for riders and passengers to wear Chest and Back Protection that meets an international standard of EN1621-2 (back) and EN1621-3 (chest), the ACU have decided to adopt the ruling for 2018.Therefore, for the 2018 season in will be compulsory for all Riders / Passengers to wear suitable Chest and Back Protection during practice and race sessions at all ACU events but it is not required the meet the above standards in the first season. The plan for the longer term will be to implement the FIM ruling however the exact timescale has yet to be finalised.Back and Chest Protection will be checked at both Technical Control and prior to starting each race, with riders possibly being turned away from the start line if not worn."

We have a new water bowser operator lined up for this meeting. Forms are here. Online entries can be made here.

01/05/07-  Long Buckby on April 30th did not go as planned. What a shame the tractor operating the water bowser broke down on Saturday night. I was only informed at 8:30am on Sunday that it would not be returning to water the track again, by which time it was too late to find a replacement. The track became too dusty to ride mid way through the day, and didn't show off the full potential of the new track work we've carried out. A new tractor and bowser has now been sourced for future meetings. Results and report to follow.

16/04/17- Full results and report from Badby here. Photos are here.

12/03/17-  IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Rd.1 of the 2017 SMC Series featuring Eastern EVOS due to run on March 19th at Long Buckby has regrettably been postponed until April 30th.
We've been checking the track every few days and looking at all of the available weather forecasts in the desperate hope that it would dry out in time. We made some progress yesterday with a machine in there, and could possibly have made it with a full dry week. Following heavy rain today and more predicted for Friday and Saturday however the track is just not going to be ready.
A lot of the track is seriously waterlogged and having invested heavily in the track over the winter it doesn't make sense to undo all that effort and end up like the GP of Indonesia.
We will therefore re-run the meeting on April 30th. Everyone who's currently booked in can stay booked in. We'll carry everything forward until then. If that doesn't work then of course riders can ask for a full refund. Thank you

10/03/14- IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT-
2014 SMC Round 1 Scheduled for March 16 at Long Buckby, now on MARCH 30th.

Due to the ravages of one of the wettest winters in history, the track is not yet ride-able. Whilst it has now thankfully stopped raining, there's so much water seeping from springs in the hillside that its just not drying out. Its still too wet to get any kind of machinery on it to prepare the track. So rather than run what would be a very poor event, we've decided to put the meeting back two weeks until MARCH 30th. All entries will be carried forward unless you hear otherwise. Anyone entered for the 16th that can't make the 30th will receive a full refund.

Thanks

09/08/13- Long Buckby cancellation-

Many thanks to the majority of riders today who understood the Clerk of The Course's difficult decision to cancel the meeting. He did this after watching riders in the 1st Expert race at the finish line on lap 1 with only 10 in the race. It was impossible to see anyone but the leader, so you can all understand how dangerous a full line up would have been.

We were unable to water the track because due to the unpredictable weather the pond at the bottom of the field was almost dry. We could find no other legal water source nearby.

With that in mind and the benefit of hindsight we should maybe of cancelled before it started, BUT the forecast was for heavy rain Friday night, and showers Saturday. On that basis we went ahead but the rain never materialised.

Cancelling before would have been a much cheaper option for the club, but we all want to race and the forecast was positive.

For those of you that felt a full refund should have immediately have been given, I understand how you feel and certainly don't like to see anyone go home angry with the club and myself. However it also important you understand the economics of a club. We all run this club voluntarily because we're passionate about the sport, it is not a profit making business. To start the meeting we've already had to pay the ACU permit, the track hire, the ambulance, the marshals, the toilets etc. To give a full refund would mean such a large financial loss that we'd probably not run again..

As I said though, I do understand how you feel about paying for just a practise session and it is very regrettable how it turned out. Therefore, we have already refunded the hire charge on all transponders. As a good will gesture I have now agreed to carry over 50% of the entry fee to the next meeting for anyone riding today.

If you can't or don't want to ride with us next time I will issue the same £20 as a refund. I'll try and contact everyone this week to sort out how you'd all like this doing, feel free to contact me so nobody gets missed out.

Thanks

Entry forms will be out as soon as I can get them sorted, probably be early next week. Please get them sent in asap.

6/10/12- The season finale is almost upon us. Time to get your entries in for the final race of the year. The track has been ripped up and rotavated and is looking really good, so it will be a lot different to last time. For those of you who embrace new technology you can also now enter and pay online.

To do so go to http://www.acu.org.uk/. Then on the left hand side click on Licences Applications On Line. ( The online entry page is new so it doesn't have a direct link to the homepage yet.)

Now you'll need to enter your licence no. and password to proceed. If you've not renewed your licence online before you might need to register and setup a password. This will get more streamlined but as its still being tested there is no direct link available, its all new to me as well..

Then look down on the left to Events, and click on Search for an Event. There in the list you should see 2012 SMC Finale- Sun Oct 21st. Click on the Begin Entry button beside it and you're in! Click on the class(es) you'd like to enter and the system should fill in all the rest for you. Please remember to fill out the bit below with your riding number, bike etc. Continue to payment through next step.

13/9/12- All the photos are now online here, with a movie from Martyn Higgins here.

11/9/12- Report and results for Long Buckby are now online here. Whilst many people enjoyed the racing, obviously quite a few felt the track was not prepared as it should have been. The club would like to apologise for that and reassure riders that it will be sorted out again for the October meeting. Lots of factors conspired against us and I've written quite a long explanation on the club facebook page if anyone wants to read it. One thing we can all do to prevent that happening again is to get involved! We were seriously short staffed in the run up to last weekend's meeting, meaning a small number of committee members working incredibly hard to make it happen. With more assistance everything is easier and we can do a better job. If you're a club member and you can find a bit of spare time to help out, please do so.

13/8/12- Our next event is an Open MX at Long Buckby on 9 September. Its also a round of the club championship. The track was graded straight after the Bob Collier Memorial meeting in April so should be in top condition. Entry forms available here-

12/7/12- Former club champion Nigel Smith very sadly passed away last Friday. He will be remembered in the club as one of the good guys. Always friendly, supportive and helpful as well as a damn fast rider. His brother Lee wrote this on facebook earlier in the week, all who knew him are welcome.

Thank you for all the messages over the past few days. We're asking for donations in lieu of flowers please at the website below. The funeral will be at 1:15pm on Thursday 19th July at Grenoside Crematorium, Skew Hill Lane, Sheffield, S35 8RZ, then afterwards at Tankersley Manor Hotel. Feel free to wear what you want, but we'd rather folk didn't wear black. Thank you.

Lee has started a collection in Nigel's memory for Sarcoma UK which you can see here.

30/03/12- Our annual Bob Collier Memorial motocross takes place on April 15th at the legendary Long Buckby. NMCC will donate all the proceeds to Leukemia Research, the target is to beat last year's total of £3000. There will be entertainment and a hog roast on the Saturday night, as well as lots of attractions on the Sunday, including the unique handmade trophies. It’s a chance to socialise with long lost friends and enjoy a wonderful atmosphere remembering the great man.

18/03/12- Following some very detailed forensic lapscoring analysis, there have been a few updates to the points and positions from Daventry- in particular in the Over 50's. These should now be correct.

14/03/12- Full report for the great meeting at Daventry last Sunday. Round 2 of the 2012 SMC saw a great turnout ant an exciting new venue. Full report here.

08/02/12- IMPORTANT NEWS regarding Long Buckby on 12 Feb. We've decided that due to the adverse weather it would be unacceptably dangerous to try and race this Sunday. The track is frozen solid and covered in snow. There's further snow forecast for thurs night and friday, and beneather the snow there are 6in deep puddles in places that are frozen solid. At no stage is the temperature predicted to rise above 0 deg, so therefore a thaw is out of the question. Sorry to those hoping to race, its always a gamble trying to run an early meeting and on this occasion the weather has beaten us.

07/02/12- Track inspection tomorrow Weds).
07/02/12- Entry Forms are now online for the Bob Collier Memorial meeting in April. Get it here-

11/01/12- In the run up to the Wild & Woolly 2011 various news items mentioned that the old Woolly track had been regularly used by 4x4s. It appears this was a misunderstanding and the 4x4s had used a different field. The club would therefore like to apologise to the tenant, Mr Chris Harris, for any bad feeling this may have caused.

05/01/12- Happy New Year everyone. Entry forms for the first meeting at Long Buckby on 12th Feb. are now online here. The Presentation Night for all the 2011 awards is on Saturday 4th Feb. Tickets are only £7.50, available from me on 0116 2796883 or Mick Berrill Motorcycles- 01604 636760

10/12/11- The Woolly needs your help- So we can continue to attract lots of spectators, many of whom are nothing to do with motocross for the rest of the year, we need to let them all know that the venue has changed.  Please print off the A4 poster if you can and stick them up in as many local places as you possible, supermarkets, town centres, wherever. Get the poster here.

28/11/11- Ross Gray is planning to ride the Woolly for charity. He's raising money for a 5yr old girl called Grace Windram from Kingsthorpe who needs treatment for cerebral palsy in the USA, to allow her to walk for the first time. To sponsor him per lap, or just to make a donation- please contact Ross on 07952 343267 or rossgray1@ntlworld.com. To read more about Grace's Fund please click here.

26/11/11- Here we go! The Wild & Woolly entry form is now available here.

25/11/11- The 2011 Wild & Woolly is on! The worldest oldest race continues..
As most of you are aware the venue of recent years, Arm Farm Blisworth has proved very difficult to secure this year. The tenant farmer that rents the field for the rest of the year is not happy to have the Woolly there this year. Additionally 4x4s are using the land all the time meaning that the watercosssings are in a terrible state. Rather than continuing to negotiate for a few more weeks I've take the decision to move the event. Hopefully with 12 months to plan it we'll be able to return to a Blisworth venue in 2012 as the race is such a big part of village life.
So for 2011 the race will take place at Airfiled Farm, Market Harborough. Steve Harrison has kindly agreed to let us use his track which will be lengthened and modified to include the usual kind of Woolly obstacles, though it should not be nearly as difficult as some of the recent Woolly mudfests. Look for entry forms in the next few days. Look forward to seeing you all on Boxing Day as usual.
Thanks

29/10/11- ‎2011 Wild & Woolly-
Due to massive amounts of speculation regarding this year's event I have decided to set the record straight and issue a statement.

The current Wild & Woolly venue is owned by a property company but leased to a local farmer who uses the land for the rest of the year. As some people have been hearing he is refusing us permission to use the track this year. Whilst we continue discussions we are also talking to some other local venues with regard to relocating this year's event. As soon as there is any more news I'll give it, but that's the position where we are right now.

1/10/11- Its October already! Forms for the last round of the SMC at Long Buckby on October 30th are online here now.

18/9/11 Full report on last week's race at Long Buckby is now online here. Also there's a brilliant set of photos here.

28/8/11- Important news regarding September 11th.
It WILL take place on the 11th of September. At the moment this clashes with Kensworth who have unfortunately moved on to our agreed date earlier in the year without us realising. This is regrettable and will affect attendance at both events, am trying to discuss this with Kensworth at the moment. I have tried moving our event to various other dates. However after considering ambulance availability, track neighbours etc, September 11th is still the only viable date we can run. Therefore we are running as scheduled. If you plan to ride with us please get your entries in asap.
Thanks

4/8/11- Regs for the next meeting at Long Buckby on Sept 11th are now online here. Please get them in early as this should prove a popular one. Its the penultimate round of the Club Championships, valuable points are still up for grabs.

23/8/10- Bob Collier by Griff

EVERYONES  FRIEND  BOB COLLIER

As most of you know Bob died on August 1st after 7 months trying to fight off leukemia. I was privileged to have known Bob for over 25 years as a good friend and colleague. He was always a true club committee member and willing to help in putting on events for the club, never did he not turn up to help at any working parties and always had a smile on his face. What great times did I, and many others, have in his company, we shall all miss you mate.
