Long Buckby 20.04.08
South Midland Centre Adult Motocross Championships- Round 1 hosted by NMCC at Long Buckby
Report: Fraser Law
Heavy overnight rain left the tough and demanding Long Buckby national circuit with some interesting wet sections. Whilst never reaching Spanish GP levels, they certainly added to the required skill levels during the early races. Whilst the heavy rain stayed away, a dense foggy cloud hung over the track all day giving rise to an intermittent fine drizzle. After the first block of races had displaced the water, the track settled down and some close, fast racing ensued.
Taking no prisoners in the Expert class Paul Edge continued to dominate taking wins in all three races. Chasing him hard early on was Ryan Griffiths, but he was forced to drop back in the final leg due to gearbox problems and ended up third overall. Dale Raynor took advantage of this and moved through to second overall with consistent top three finishes. Reigning champion Mark Boswell took his number one plate to fourth overall.
Always a keenly contested class, the Junior A group saw some close battles but the winner was never in doubt. David Sweet swept to two clear wins, whilst behind him the chasing pack trade positions throughout the day. In the end, Tom Drabble finished runner-up, from Jordan Wright and Adam Collins. In the Junior B’s John Barnes again won both legs for the overall win, Kyle Reeves took second after a close fight with Jonny Lee.
David Grimshaw took a hatrick of wins in the Over 40 class, despite the best efforts of Fraser Law to catch him. Third place overall went to Richard Wright who’s results improved as the track dried out. In the Over 50’s Nigel Miller won all 3 legs, followed by Mark Hammersley and Andrew Brightman. Despite taking second in the first two encounters, a dnf in the final race dropped Reg Willis to fourth overall.
Last race of the day was the Allcomers, open to anyone who still had the strength for another race. Paul Edge took his fourth win of the day, from Dale Raynor in second. Third place went to Junior A victor David Sweet with Jordan Wright in fourth.
The next round of the series takes place on April 27 with L&DMCC at Toddington.
