Riders at Crick were greeted by a bright sunny day, with a cool breeze proving just enough to keep the dust at bay all day. The recent track grading was a big improvement, though Crick is never going to be an easy circuit, and today it proved to be as hard, fast and demanding as ever. The famous Crick 'ridge and furrow' whoops demanded absolute concentration, though some modifications meant a degree of doubling and tripling was possible, if not perhaps for the faint-hearted.
First race away was the workers race, with the traditional handicapped start. On her first ride back with the club after several years, Hayley Rilings took the win from Michael Randall. The Experts ran with the Junior A group, producing some great races between Mark Boswell, Kevin Finch and Nigel Smith. Nigel had to leave straight after his final race as his wife was going in to labour, Daniel Smith was born later on Sunday night, congratulations to the proud parents.
Mark Boswell took his Honda 450 to a clean sweep of the Experts from Nigel Smith and Simon Bryant. Kevin Finch again proved unstoppable on his 125 KTM in the Junior A finals with Lee Smith finishing in a sometimes lonely second place (despite a great win in his heat) from Jon Gutteridge. In the 125's victory went to guess who, Kevin Finch once again, from a much fitter this time Fraser Law and Adam Collins. Junior B's saw Matthew Farr win from Chris Hackett and Matthew Willis. The Twinshock pilots showed they were up to the task of running with the 40-50's and Over 50's, running near the front of the pack all day. Quite a feat considering the toughness of the course. Victory went to David Muddiman, from Mick Simons and Mike Freeman.
In the Age group categories the Under 30's saw Gavin Coleman take the win from smooth riding John Merrison. The 30-40's, always a highly competitive group, saw Mark Boswell win from Nigel Smith. Alan Coleman won the 40-50's from Mike Freeman. The consistently fast Mick Simons took the overall in the Over 50's from Tom Austin.
